I have ridden a few wings from the Code S range – the 720, 850 and 1300. The 1300 I have only proned, but the other two I have ridden both Prone and Wing. I don’t own Code gear, so I have only ridden each wing a handful of times.

My first experience was on the 850, and I was blown away. This was the smallest foil I had proned at this time, and coming from an older shape Naish 1040 HA this opened my eyes to a whole new world of opportunity in the surf. I was impressed with how intuitive this foil was, making takeoffs and sections easily that would have typically been 50:50, and I could easily pump the 850 around to connect waves which is pretty impressive for an intermediate foiler at ~80kg. This seems to be a bit of a unicorn foil, in that it is very beginner-friendly with its gentle lift profile and stability, but also an advanced surf foil that taught me a lot and allowed me to progress my surf foiling rapidly.
I did find the 850 generated a lot of front foot pressure when in water with more energy, and I quickly felt overpowered in larger surf or when powered up on the wing coming into a wave. I don’t recall what Code tail I used, but there might be an opportunity to address this with changing the tail size.

Moving to the 720 in more powerful conditions completely address this, and I found the low end compromise was minimal, but the top end of this smaller foil was significantly better and I never felt over powered. If I had a code quiver, I am pretty sure both of these sizes would be in it.

More recently I had a chance to surf the new 1300S, given that this is larger than any foils I currently own it is not surprising that the lift and pump were impressive, but what really surprised me was how the pump felt. I felt like I was pumping on solid ground, and after almost 5 minutes on foil I decided to not pump back out as my back was sore, not my legs or cardio! Considering how well this foil turns in tiny surf, it would be hard not to include this in the quiver also!
