Foil Exchange is made by Foilers, for Foilers

Hey, my name is Brendan and I have a foiling addiction.

I live on the south coast of Australia and foil most days, mixing up the discipline depending on the condition. Prone, Wing, SUP, Kite, Tow, Dockstart and sometimes I even dabble with a bit of Downwind. We get a lot of swell and a lot of wind, and foiling has now only allowed me to get infinitely more days than when I used to just surf or kitesurf, but it also takes me away from the crowds so my time in the water is so much more rewarding. If you are reading this then it is likely you are also somewhere on your foil journey and can relate to this.

So why make Foil Exchange?

Come mid-2024 I found myself suddenly with a large chunk of free time around 9-5 Monday to Friday. I was happy to fill this with time on the water but soon found myself looking for some ‘downtime’ projects. I have built a number of foils previously with mixed success, but was yet to finally build a foil board, so project number 1 was a new sinker mid-length, a one-board quiver for travel and daily driver for the wing when the wind is good. The board came out great and has filled me with ideas for the next iterations.

Whilst researching this board build, I read a lot of reviews online of different boards and other foiling equipment. The one thing I found was that most reviews were either professional journalists (who typically perform a short test on loan equipment) or sponsored/team riders who seem to only have positive things to say about the latest piece of kit they are representing. The best honest feedback I could find was in various online forums, however, these were not dedicated to foiling reviews so finding these posts was difficult.

We all know that when reading reviews about foiling gear, you quickly start looking online for what it might cost to give it a go. Convinced that the foil, board, wing or whatever you just read about sounds like the perfect thing for your water time. This is where problem number two of the online foil world hit me – I searched through the usual online buy and sell marketplaces but found the dedicated watersports sites failed to have enough categorisation for foiling equipment, and the general sites wanted to sell me foil insulation board!

So there we have it, two problems and one foiler with a whole lot of spare time. The name Foil Exchange was an easy choice for me. It is multipurpose – I want people to be able to exchange their feedback and reviews, and I wanted to provide an actual exchange to buy and sell foiling gear, with proper foil categorisations and location details.

My ask to you

First off, thanks for hitting up Foil Exchange, and extra thanks for reading through this page!

I made this website to help the foiling community. I hope it does, and I want it to evolve to continue to do so. If you like the site, hate the site, or even better, have a suggestion for how to make the site better I would love to hear it! This isn’t run by some faceless organisation, just a fellow foiler who love a chat.

The best way to hit me up is via Instagram, or the Contact Page.

Chur, Brendan
